what is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a particular technique that can be used in support of – or in some cases instead of – a broader counselling approach. And results can often be achieved more quickly. For example, I only plan a maximum of two sessions for smoking cessation.

The fact is that Hypnotherapy is a tried, tested and trusted technique for inducing a state of deep relaxation. In this state, people can be helped to overcome fears, phobias and compulsive patterns of behaviour and learn how to deal with the stresses, strains and pains of life in a positive and peaceful way.

And yet despite its effectiveness, there are still a number of myths surrounding hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. So let’s dispel a few of them. During the course of a Hypnotherapy session, which typically lasts for about an hour, you won’t forget who you are. It won’t ‘mess with your mind’. And I certainly won’t ask you to do or say anything out of character.

what can it help with?

Just some of the issues that Hypnotherapy can help to address include:

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Fears and Phobias
  • Unwanted habits (e.g. smoking)
  • Weight Loss
  • Grief
  • Hypnotherapy can also help with a number of physical health problems.

As the name implies, Hypnobirthing is a specific application of Hypnotherapy used to help women feel calm, relaxed and in control both during the later stages of pregnancy and during childbirth itself. It can help both you and your partner to overcome any fears or anxieties you might have about childbirth and could enable you to experience this truly life-changing event without the need for drugs or other medication.
