what is counselling?

What exactly is counselling? You may get several different answers to that question depending on who you ask but the essence will always be the same. Counselling is always based on the principle of creating a safe, secure and confidential environment in which the client – you – will discover how to talk about the issues that are really affecting your life, without fear of judgement.

why would I need it?

Sometimes, the underlying causes of our biggest problems are buried or hidden within us. And it is only through a counselling process that self-awareness can emerge and with it the possibility of making meaningful changes in our lives.

So it’s important to appreciate that counselling doesn’t provide an overnight solution or a quick fix.

how long will it take?

How many sessions are required – each one typically lasting for an hour – will depend on how intensive and deep-seated the problem (or problems) might be.

what can it help with?

You may have heard the term ‘psychotherapy’. And, in fact, at Tuned in Therapy, I practice what is known as ‘integrative psychotherapeutic counselling’. But whatever it’s called, the counselling process has proven to be highly effective in dealing with a wide range of issues that can cause deep distress.
