When Love Speaks

Joy is proud to have conceived and developed her idea to create new renditions of Shakespearean Sonnets, particularly in regard to music, and this album became a mix of songs and spoken word.

Joining forces with the late, much missed Michael Kamen, proved to be a catalyst for the project, with Michael bringing in Alan Rickman and Annie Lennox.

Joy produced all the spoken word tracks (bar one, Sir John Gielgud, whose earlier recording was used) including John Hurt, Diana Rigg, Richard Attenborough, Alan Bates, Kenneth Branagh, Richard Briers, Ralph Fiennes, David Harewood, Robert Lindsay, Sian Phillips, Timothy Spall, Imelda Staunton, Juliet Stevenson, Imogen Stubbs and many other past students of RADA, for whom the album was, and still is, a fund raiser.

Musicians who contributed include Bryan Ferry, Rufus Wainwright, Barbara Bonney and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
